Top 10 Electric Cars of 2023
Owning an electric car can be an excellent way to reduce environmental impacts, since they produce no emissions while being considerably quieter than conventional fuel-powered vehicles.
The BMW iX SUV is a practical yet stylish vehicle, which showcases German automaker BMW’s electrified future with flair. Equipped with two electric motors that deliver all-wheel drive for all-terrain use and an estimated driving range of 245 miles.
1. Kia Niro EV
Kia’s second-generation all-electric Niro EV offers family buyers an attractively priced electric alternative to crossover SUVs with gas engines. Constructed on a platform capable of accommodating hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric powertrains, this spacious vehicle makes an impressionable first impression for family buyers.
The Niro’s front-wheel drive and 201 horsepower motor make it no speedster, yet provide plenty of pep for around-town driving and highway cruising. Plus its long list of standard features, eco-friendly materials, and 10-year battery warranty set it apart among small non-luxury EVs.
Persons most concerned with price will find the Niro’s entry cost hard to stomach, but its fast public charging speeds and respectable range help soften this blow. A quick 85kW DC charge can restore its batteries back up to 80 percent in under 45 minutes!
2. Volkswagen ID.4
VW’s inaugural dedicated electric SUV stands out in an increasingly competitive class of long-range family SUV EVs. Its spacious yet quiet interior provides ample room for passengers and luggage storage space in addition to offering an excellent cargo hold feature. Furthermore, this EV drives well and boasts an impressive maximum range of 208 miles (based on our simulated EPA test cycle).
The 2023 ID.4 shares its mechanical layout with its predecessor, yet has received updates with new exterior colors and an upgrade in interior features such as one large solid armrest between front seats and a vertically angled Qi wireless charging pad for mobile phone charging. It also comes equipped with one larger armrest between front seats for added comfort during long trips.
A 52kWh Standard model now costs under $40k and qualifies for the full $7,500 federal EV tax credit. If you require more range and AWD capabilities, opt for the 77kWh Pro version instead.
3. BMW iX
The BMW iX may not be one of the more eye-catching electric SUVs, but its quick acceleration from a standstill and lively chassis make driving it immensely pleasurable. Even on a winding road it makes driving easy fun!
Its 111 kWh battery pack and electric all-wheel drive allow it to maneuver seamlessly through traffic, reaching up to 324 miles on one charge depending on which model is selected.
The BMW iX’s interior stands out from any other BMW with its razor-sharp, curved instrument and infotainment screens that float above its steeply raked dash. Additionally, there are unique touches like bronze accents, open-pore wood trim, and the available crystalline iDrive controller; making for an unforgettable cabin that shows BMW is committed to electric mobility.
4. Hyundai Kona EV
Hyundai’s 2023 Kona Electric has all of the ingredients of an excellent electric vehicle: solid range, reliable powertrain and impressive charging rate. Plus its cabin is more refined than competing mainstream EVs like VW ID.3, MG ZS EV and BYD Atto 3 even with its higher price point.
Hyundai provides both short-range and long-range versions, with the latter equipped with a 65.4kWh battery pack delivering a driving range of 306 miles using the World Light Travelling Programme (WLTP). Hyundai estimates it can recharge from 10% to 80% in 43 minutes using public DC fast charging stations.
Drivers of the Kona EV will find its cabin comfortable and intuitive to use, featuring dual 12.3-inch reconfigurable digital display screens which double as instrument panels and infotainment systems. There should be enough room in the back seat to comfortably seat two adults plus ISOFIX child seats depending on passenger size.
5. Hummer EV
GMC’s first electric pickup comes equipped with plenty of exciting features, like Watts to Freedom which lets drivers activate an acceleration mode designed to spook passengers and test your g-force limits.
The 9,000-pound truck uses 24 of GM’s new Ultium lithium-ion battery modules to cover a claimed 329 miles on one charge – more than an all-out Ford 1-ton dually diesel pickup with its optional 131kWh battery pack can reach.
A locking rear differential, massive 35-inch tires and underside skid plates help the Hummer EV navigate even the roughest terrain with ease. A variety of cameras give drivers a 360-degree view that helps them identify rocks or obstacles as well as avoid them with ease; plus a torque vectoring system allows it to easily turn corners that would challenge a Raptor or TRX pickup.
